Our Purpose

The purpose of The GEAR Foundation is to equip hardworking people with disabilities to be successful participants in their communities. Thanks to the overwhelming support from the Williamson County community (TN), GEAR has already taken great steps to achieving this goal.

First

First, GEAR is striving to fill a much-needed employment gap by recruiting employers (starting in Williamson County) to employ persons with disabilities. (There is a 50% unemployment rate in Williamson County for individuals with disabilities)

Second

Second, we have opened training centers called "Our Thrift Store", at 1018 Columbia Ave and "Our Fulfillment Center" at 1010 Columbia Ave in Franklin Tennessee which are being used to train our clients with special-needs in jobs such as cashier, stocking clerk, shipping clerk, and data entry. GEAR is also using these facilities to accomplish other job training.

To Date, we have almost 20 young adults hired and working at both locations. We also have placed 3 employees with employers in our community.

Third

Third, GEAR continues to raise funds for expansion through private grants, corporations, individuals, auctions and other fund-raising events. See a list of Our Supporters.

"GEAR provides opportunities beyond cloistered environments such as group homes or sheltered workshops. Our Thrift Store and Our Fulfillment Center assists in mainstreaming special needs young adults. By providing the opportunity to have the kids work and interact in a warm and friendly public setting, the program is having a tremendous impact in improving self-image and boosting confidence. Most importantly, GEAR provides real hope for an independent life beyond an educational setting. In addition, parents are thrilled with the results, and the promise of a stable future for their special child.” Dave Krikac-Founder
